Among all the astrological symbols, the glyph for Sagittarius is surely one of the most straightforward. The archer’s arrow aimed upwards provides an immediate sense of direction, release, elevation and higher purpose. The arrow is also the terminal part of the glyph for Scorpio, and indeed there is no way to understand Sagittarius without Scorpio, and vice versa.
This is the darkest time of the year, yet it is also the most gifted for it heralds the coming of the Winter Solstice and the inevitable return of light. This escalates the trust in whatever is good, luminous and beautiful in each one of us, including the world and the universe at large. A first-class, yet most simple question to ask oneself in this season is “what is good, luminous and beautiful in life?” or “what has proved to be good, luminous and beautiful in life?” or even “what can be good, luminous and beautiful in life?” No matter which tense or verb we employ for this question, as long as “good, luminous and beautiful in life” are there, the focus is always the same. And Sagittarius is a champion on focusing towards the “good, luminous and beautiful in life”, an invincible winner, bound to triumphantly lead you to the light even at the climax of darkness.
After transiting and mastering the path of darkness, Sagittarius is challenged to find a target upon which to direct its powerful energies. Part of the challenge here is between objectives based upon second-hand beliefs, or conditionings, and those founded upon direct experience, or what is “good, luminous and beautiful in life” according to your truth.
The flight of the Sagittarius’s arrow illustrates the emergence from the darkness of the underworld and the greyness of the ordinary world, into the realms of inconceivable light that exist beyond. Yet, this journey is intimately based on the luminous appreciation of all aspects of life, low and high, so that as we transit through the earthy landscape all that is found is thoroughly enjoyed and celebrated.
Sagittarius is the senior leader of the fiery signs. These signs represent the invigorating and vital power of the whole astrological circle. They embody pure energy and life force, capable of directly and instantly transforming whatever they touch. The cardinal fire of Aries reveals the primal spark and the ignition power, fast and passionately burning itself so as to nourish the steady flames of the fixed fire of Leo, which is fire at its peak of grandiosity, visibility and strength. The mutable fire of Sagittarius is the flame beneath the ashes, the glowing hot embers, which radiate huge amount of heat when the fire is extinguished, and yet can turn into flames with a sudden gust of air. Embers represent fire in its full maturity, glowing with a constant heat, ideal for roasting delicious food, as well as energising all that is good, luminous and beautiful.
As customary, significant good, luminous and beautiful developments are in gestation on the astroshamanic healing front for the forthcoming year, which in the countdown to 2012 is the year associated to Sagittarius. Please contact me if you wish to know more about any aspect of astroshamanic work, including self-study courses, individual tuition, the Astroshamanic Mentoring Service and forthcoming one-year courses.
Wishing you peace, beauty and good will on this luminous holiday season!
Franco

Heavenly Fruits: Forthcoming Trends in Astroshamanic Work

There are several innovative astroshamanic enterprises growing under the dark protective mantel of autumn and winter. Heavenly fruits are about to ripen as from the start of the New Year.
A major aspect involves an increased emphasis on the energy dynamics of the sacred circle and astrology, which are the main traditional astroshamanic assets. The latest publication of the Provisional Astroshamanic Cards (see details below) and their use in workshops is very likely to enhance this process. This can shed light on a whole treasure of healing practices that have been built since the early stages of this work.
The early months of 2009 will also feature the launch of the new long-awaited Astroshamanic Healing CD, containing outstanding music for the Basic Ritual of the Sacred Cone, suitable also for practices such as Astroshamanic Touch and Trance Dance. We will provide details about the CD in the next issues.
The Astroshamanic Mentoring Service (see details below) is another major development, which is aimed at superbly remodelling some of the counselling and healing activities that Franco has successfully offered for twenty years.
Perhaps the most significant educational element, which reflects in particular in the forthcoming programmes, is the prominence given to energy work and its application for promoting significant healing transformation and health at an individual, collective and environmental level. The aim is to delve more substantially into the use of astroshamanic tools, monitoring and supporting their pragmatic healing effects, bridging the visionary element with the practical reality, and accentuating the astroshamanic side of energy work.
The assumption of energy work is that our physical body and whatever is visible in our reality consists of energy fields, all deeply connected at a level unseen to our limited perception, yet part of the web of life, as it is understood both spiritually and scientifically. There are many techniques that allow us to become aware of these energy fields. These tools, besides promoting health, well-being and spiritual growth at an individual level, vigorously contribute to create major positive changes at a collective and planetary level.
Energy work is the basic feature of the oldest therapeutic and healing systems, such as Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, the Hermetic Western traditions and shamanism. The primary healing modality of these systems is promoting the flow of energy by using tools aimed at activating, releasing, balancing or moderating energy. Another common characteristic of these systems of healing is that they all use astrology as their basic therapeutic and diagnostic key.
In ancient times healing was not based on prescribing remedies, but was practiced through ongoing energy work, aimed at balancing or, in the way of the tarot trump Temperance, “moderating” all the elements and aspects of life, as represented by the zodiac signs. This knowledge applied to the physical body implied regularly harmonising each organ with all the other body parts, as well as their association with the environment, both at a physical and multidimensional level.
Knowledge of energy work has been largely lost in the past thousands of years, due to the prevalence of beliefs based on separation and duality. As a result energy work has survived in fragmented forms and through a wide variety of alternative therapies. In recent times there has been a popular rising appreciation of some of these methods, such as acupuncture, Chi Kung, yoga, and other practices of Indian and Chinese medicine. In contrast, the ancient methods of the Western healing tradition continue to be mainly unknown or ridiculed. This is regrettable, for such practices can provide major healing gifts, not only at a physical level, but also as a powerful way of recovering our original memory and multidimensional nature.
Most of the forthcoming astroshamanic courses and workshops will integrate the Eastern and Western approaches to energy work within the efficient structure of astroshamanism. The newly born One-Year Course in Astroshamanic Healing Touch & Energy Work, which takes place in Edinburgh as from 7-8 February 2009, the Training in Astroshamanic Healing Methodologies: One-Year Course in Sacred Circle Management, with Elements of Energy Astrology, in Jesi (Ancona, Italy) as from 24-25 January 2009, and the Astroshamanic Midwinter Basic Seminar in Worcester (England), 31 January – 1 February 2009, are particularly aimed at promoting the new developments in astroshamanic work, together with the Foundation Training in Astroshamanism at the Findhorn Foundation, from 21 February to 6 March 2009, and the Astroshamanic Summer International Retreat in Assisi (3-7 July 2009). For these programmes, see details in the calendar below.
In the forthcoming courses and workshops, there will be a minor emphasis on the structured shamanic practices as taught in conventional shamanism, or “core shamanism”. The techniques employed will embrace a much wider scenario of reputable methodologies aimed at deeply investigating the multidimensional realms, while also effectively coming to terms with the ordinary reality and learning to face its major challenges.

The Astroshamanic Mentoring Service

Since 1988 Franco Santoro has worked extensively with thousands of people from all walks of life and from more than 100 countries, offering them regular support and guidance in the search for their life purpose. Franco is particularly successful in assisting individuals to gain clarity about their highest intentions and develop pragmatic means to fully achieve them. The connection with the inner guide, or multidimensional self, and the enhancement of shamanic healing gifts also plays a significant role.

As from 2009 the Provisional Astroshamanic Network (PAN) is pleased to provide the opportunity to extend this experienced assistance through a new exclusive Astroshamanic Mentoring Service (AMS).

The Astroshamanic Mentoring Service involves a regular direct connection with Franco Santoro or other qualified mentors aimed at the following:
• Setting, implementing and manifesting short, medium and long-term intentions
• Deeply and regularly connecting with one’s inner guide, core identity and other deep expressions of the multidimensional self.
• Releasing and transforming grievances, blocks and other aspects of separation.
• Integrating spiritual, multidimensional and visionary experiences with everyday life, including family, relationships, creativity and work.
• Retrieving lost parts of the soul and spirit medicines.
• Intimately engaging with the seasonal cycles and the energy dynamics of one’s astrological chart
• Unveiling, supporting and developing hidden potentials and gifts.
• Assisting in devising and applying practices and healing remedies, including a full programme aimed at supporting the above processes.
• Providing opportunities for further training and refinement of skills, together with the integration of various forms of astroshamanic tuition, such as Operative Training in Astroshamanism, Astroshamanic Practitioner Training or one-year courses, and of other modalities of teaching.

The Astroshamanic Mentoring Service is extremely flexible and can be adapted to all types of situations and needs. We will work with each person individually for a minimum of three months, and with pricing options starting from £19 per month. The service is offered by phone or via Skype, and also through face-to-face sessions, if required.
If you would like to receive further information about this service, including costs and format, please contact info@astroshamanism.org.

Happy Donations!

As you are aware, PAN is available free to anyone who has attended astroshamanic events/sessions, or simply wishes to receive it. If you find PAN useful, or if you value astroshamanic work, why not become a supporter of the Provisional Astroshamanic Network (PAN)? We rely on donations to bring in enough to cover a small part of the expenditures. And we do need donations to expand the work and activate various healing projects. Any donation (small, medium or big) would be greatly appreciated. Donations will encourage us to continue on this path. Also other forms of contribution are much appreciated.
You can also support PAN by contributing to our Bursary Fund which allows people who do not have enough money the chance to participate in astroshamanic long term programmes, such as the Operative Training in Astroshamanism, the Astroshamanic Practitioner Training and the One-Year Courses. There are various talented people who need this support, and some of them are often forced to limit or defer their training because they are unable to cover the expenditures involved in travel, accommodation and tuition. Your help may be decisive here. For more details please contact pan@astroshamanism.org.

The Provisional Astroshamanic Cards

The Provisional Astroshamanic Cards are a simple and powerful tool that efficiently condenses the essence of astroshamanic cosmology and astrological language.

The main purpose of the cards, created by Letizia Mocchegiani and Franco Santoro, is to set up and operate the basic structure of the astrological circle, or circle on the floor, for shamanic journeys, experiential astrology, healing and rituals, with individual or group work. The deck consists of 19 cards incorporating the 12 astroshamanic sectors (encompassing zodiac signs, houses and planets), the four horizontal directions (East, South, West and North, each associated with an element and season) and the three vertical directions (Higher, Lower and Middle World). Each of the 12 zodiac card depicts the traditional astrological glyph and references, together with the icon of the totem spirit and an astroshamanic seal, both aimed at supporting deep trance work and incorporation of the spirit and soul’s essence of the sector involved.
While designated primarily for shamanic healing work and experiential astrology, the cards can also be used for divination, readings and motivational purposes. This deck is also aimed at promoting a deeper understanding of astrology and one’s inner world, supporting intuitional and experiential learning through a direct interaction with symbols, colours and keywords. The cards constitute a most valuable accompanying tool to Franco Santoro’s two volumes on Astroshamanism (Astroshamanism: A Journey into the Inner Universe and Astroshamanism: The Voyage through the Zodiac, Findhorn Press), which provide full details on the meaning of each card and how to use them.

As from 21 November 2009, the Provisional Astroshamanic Cards will be finally available for order in the United Kingdom and Europe. For those wanting to order copies of the cards, you can obtain them for £12 or Euro 15, plus £1.90 or Euro 1.45 for postage. Please place your order by e-mail contacting info@astroshamanism.org. Alternatively you can purchase the cards during upcoming workshops or events.

The ASTROSHAMANIC Travel Column

“There is only the voyage. If we are not in the voyage we are not anywhere.”

This column in PAN is an open space for astroshamanic seekers and associates who wish to share about their sacred travel adventures on planet Earth. A sacred travel is regarded as any physical journey that offers significant shamanic and spiritual experiences. A sacred travel does not necessarily involve visiting a traditional sacred site or holy land. A sacred travel is sanctified by God’s presence (please see the endnote for a clarification about what we mean by God) and by our direct spiritual experience. This is what makes a journey truly sacred no matter when or where it takes place. Please send articles to pan@astroshamanism.org

This issue of the Astroshamanic Travel Column features the town of Jesi. This is one of the most beguiling places in the Marche, a central eastern Italian region with emerald hills and top quality life. A notable feature of Jesi is its belt of 14th century massive walls, strengthened with buttresses and impenetrable towers, and topped by houses. In Jesi there is also one of the most famous theatres in Italy, and a church called Chiesa della Morte (Death's Church). Jesi is the birthplace of the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II, known as Stupor Mundi (the amazement of the world) for his epic multi-dimensional deeds and his association to Castel del Monte, one of the most esoteric places in Italy.
In Bologna there is the very old saying “Va a Jesi!” (Go to Jesi!), which some people employ when, upon having had enough with someone, they tell him to got away and never come back. It is a refined Italian euphemism for much more conventional sayings, such as“Va all’Inferno!” (Go to Hell!) or “Vai a quel paese!”, and also “Necaturi estote” (Vai a morir ammazzato!), which can be translated as “Go and get yourself killed.” “Go to Jesi”, on the other hand is a champion in obliqueness, so that most people use it without having any clue about its historical implications. These seem to be related to the fact that Jesi was known for its cord makers, who in those times were easily associated with hanging ropes for capital punishments. When I was wee I kept hearing this saying, and I imagined how embarrassing it would be to go to the station and buy a ticket for Jesi. I also I thought how this could apply to those living in Jesi itself. How can you say “Go to Jesi” to someone who is already in Jesi? Hence Jesi became for me a most puzzling town, a place where I felt it would be exciting to go one day. And when I finally did, I found out that, of course, in Jesi they do not use this saying. I went to Jesi for the first time in September 2005 on the day of my birthday, when I held the first of a long series of astroshamanic workshops. Since then Jesi has become the most important astroshamanic centre, with the largest number of workshops (after Findhorn) and the top number of trainees. This is mainly thanks to the passionate work of the local group. One of the members of this group, Letizia Mocchegiani, will soon hold a One-Year Course in Core Astroshamanism, as part of her Astroshamanic Teacher Certification Training
The following article is from Dave Mountjoy, another devoted and passionate soul contributing luminosity in the astroshamanic firmament. Dave drove from Worcester (England) to Jesi. He went to Jesi and also came back! (Franco Santoro)

Go to Jesi and Back: An Astroshamanic Journe
y by Dave Mountjoy

Well, where do I start? How about turning the key in the ignition, releasing the handbrake and ever so gently depressing my right foot upon the mile-polished accelerator of the ancient and box-like camper van? With the first millimetres of movement, the journey has begun. Well of course, it’s a journey within a journey, but so I don’t get too tied up with riddles before I’ve really started, what I actually mean is that the journey to Jesi to attend the Sacred Heart Astroshamanic workshop was and is simply part of a wider journey, a movement into stillness and the luminous landscape of love.
And so I began, from Worcester to Dover in the dying days of a rain-soaked summer. The sun shone beautifully all the way to The White Cliffs and I drank in its blood-red death before boarding the ferry to Calais. From Calais I crossed the rolling hills of north-eastern France, revelling in the excitement of discovering this region for the first time and experiencing a child-like thrill at the thought of being able to pull over where-ever I wanted and rest in the comfortable confines of the camper. From eastern France I crossed the Rhine and entered Germany. From there I crossed the Swiss Alps, including my first experience of smoking brakes and the thought at one point that they had actually welded themselves to the front wheels. On a tiny mountain pass, in the midst of a most unexpected yet wonderfully welcome snowstorm, I crossed into Italy and pointed the bumper towards Jesi and the Adriatic Coast.
Already, the significance of the decision to drive to the workshop and not fly or even take the train was becoming apparent for me. Cocooned in the cab of the camper, staring at the road for hour after hour after hour, I regularly entered a very quiet state of mind which allowed a gentle exploration of what had drawn me to making such a journey. Into this space, there also emerged a host of grievances, rising into the rarefied air of a very basic and simple routine – driving, eating and sleeping, although not necessarily in that order.
It also became apparent to me that each region and indeed country that I moved through contained a spirit of its own, made manifest in the physical landscape. The local inhabitants had in turn expressed their experience of the spirit in the form of particular styles of building, farming systems and such specific details as orderliness or a passion for adding an artistic touch to gardens. It was a great joy to me to observe these changes both physically in what I saw around me and internally in how I felt.
France was a pleasure to drive through, with the roads clearly marked and well ordered. Germany, although only briefly glimpsed in evening twilight, appeared to be subject to some hidden force of absolute order and a striving for everything to be in its rightful place. Switzerland was experienced as a place of great efficiency, very ordered, measured and confident of its place in the scheme of things. And then I entered Italy. The border guard at the Alpine entry-point waved me into his country with a gesture that said ‘I can’t be bothered to look at your passport’. And so it continued. Although some road signs were difficult to discover, let alone read, there appeared to me to be an invitation to enter into a great vehicular flow, where the mass of vehicles, including the ever present and death-defying scooters, were simply the expression of one supreme motorised being. How intriguing that a nation’s spirit should express itself so clearly in the driving habits of its people. And how interesting that this spirit is available to all, whatever their background or origin, so that within a few hours, the sluggish motorised box that I was driving had become one with the flow and was happy to nudge impatiently out into the never-ending stream of traffic, as if an old hand at the nudge, nudge, foot down tactics necessary to gain any movement at roundabouts.
So what of the workshop? Well, I was the first to arrive at the beautifully restored farmhouse and a good job too. Four days driving without shower etc had left me with a certain aroma that, whilst being some kind of memento of my driving exploits, was enough to perhaps have me placed in a separate room to the rest of the participants. The shower I took within minutes of checking in was a quite heavenly experience. It gave me the opportunity to enter into a state of release and in many ways, set the tone for what was to follow during the course of the next five days.
My preferred method of sharing what I experienced, with readers of PAN, is by energetic transmission and so I will offer in words but a brief taste of what occurred for me. Without entering into thought as I write these words, I can report that I discovered a potent aspect of sexuality that I had experienced but once before, yet never with a non-human form of life. I will never look at apple trees or any tree come to think of it, in quite the same way again. To be deeply caressed by such a life form and allowed admittance to a realm of such sensual energy was truly invigorating. On sharing this experience during the workshop, I was guided to the understanding that such potent sexual experiences are available at any moment and can be accessed through total attention to the breath. This revelation activated a further chain of healing, as it allowed me to understand that my search for previously experienced sexual highs and transformation related to such activity, in the form of the perfect sexual partner, was no longer necessary. This in turn allowed the release of the thought pattern that I was entertaining which held the idea that I must wait faithfully until I find the perfect partner. Ha ha, I was able to say, I know that perfect partner, I know where she is...of course, she’s already loving me inside out, from the heart, the blood-red beater. In fact, she is both he and she at the same time and perfectly known by the name of Love.
The Sacred Heart workshop gave me the gift of meeting my perfect partner, lover and soul mate, the someone who will endure the Fire of death and decay of flesh and bone. This is, for me, the Sacred Relationship.
The journey home was graced by two weeks of almost unbroken sunshine, kamikaze Italian scooter drivers, the encounter of deep-rooted fears centred quite simply upon death, wonderful walks, fine food and further adventures with a range of exotic Mediterranean tree species. On arriving in Dover, it began to rain.

The Spirit Guide by Paola Pierpaoli
Paola Pierpaoli has worked professionally with astrology, tarot card reading and spiritual healing since 1985. She trained in astroshamanism with Franco Santoro during a three year course. She has been in constant contact with her Spirit Guide since 1996 and is the author of two popular books in Italian Iniziazione al contatto con lo spirito guida (Initiation to the connection with the Spirit Guide) Edizioni Mediterranee, 2004, and Guarire con gli angeli, (Healing with the Angels), Hermes, 2005 and of several articles published in the magazines Astra and Armonia. Her activity includes seminars, courses, conferences and consultancies of spiritual astrology (both individual and for couples), medical astrology, tarot card reading, channeling. For more details on Paola Pierpaoli’s work see her website: http://www.esperienzediluce.com/eng/index.htm
The following text in an excerpt from her book Iniziazione al contatto con lo spirito guida

My encounter with Franco Santoro occurred in a very particular way. I have always liked the books written by the spiritual master Osho, and, in a particular period of my life, for a couple of months everywhere I went I saw a car with the sign ‘Osho' on the rear glass, certainly the car of one of the centres in Rome inspired by the master's work. I was beginning to think that there was a message for me in the numerous encounters with the car, and that maybe the time had come to deepen my knowledge of the master's thoughts, possibly starting to attend one of the centres based on his teachings. I visited a couple of them without finding what I was looking for. As in that period I was organizing a medical astrology residential seminar in which I would deal with the theoretical aspects of that subject, I wanted someone to run a practical healing experience during the seminar, and for this reason I was looking for details in the specialized magazines. At a certain point I came across an advertisement of an experiential astrology seminar held by Franco Santoro, in which they spoke about the possibility of having a direct experience of one's planets through the use of the zodiacal circle on the floor, and among other things they said that Franco had been Osho's press agent. As I was still thinking about my repeated meetings with the mysterious car, I called Franco who was happy to run an event on experiential astrology in my seminar. Following that experience a three-year-course of astroshamanism, held by Franco at my house in Rome resulted.
This course on astroshamanism changed my life and first of all brought about my encounter with the Spirit Guide, the following ‘investiture' by my Guide to help others to get in contact with their Guides, as well as the possibility of working with the zodiacal circle on the floor as a very strong source of consciousness and healing. My work and the work of Franco Santoro, who nowadays lives and works in the spiritual community of the Findhorn Foundation in Scotland, are motivated by the same intention of Light, but, because of a natural inclination and on the advice of my Guide I have not deepened the more shamanic aspects of Franco's work, which he manages with great ability.
I am a channeler, a person who helps others to get in contact with their Spirit Guide. It is the main Spirit Guide, who can be identified with the Guardian Angel, the Guide people get in contact with through the work with me. It is very important for me to make a statement. Generally what is meant for channeling is the utilization of a medium as an intermediary to speak to one's Spirit Guide. Personally I am quite opposed to this kind of contact, as I believe that there should be no intermediaries in the relationship between us and our spiritual world. The presence of intermediaries generates dependence, and, on the other hand, it is possible that in the dialogue between the intermediary and our Spirit Guide (always supposing that he is able to contact our true Guide), other presences intrude, and the result is a message which contains the answers of our Guide with some interferences which can be totally misleading. Starting from the assumption that our Guide has been accompanying us since we were born, what I mean with helping people to get in contact with their Guide is allowing them to become conscious of His presence, giving Him a name, a physical appearance (true Guides almost never show Their faces clearly), a collocation in time. All this allows us to easily call the Guide when we need Him, always getting an advice of Light, or simply when we desire the comfort of His company. Many of us have had in different circumstances of life the sensation of a presence, of a protection, for example someone was miraculously saved from an accident or put back on the right path by an invisible friendly hand.
Entering into conscious contact with the Guide means taking another step, that is not only asking our Guide to protect us when we have difficulties, but also to help us to realize on the Earth works of Light. It means to live in the Light, to unite spirit and matter. During the first period of my contact with the Guide, it seemed absurd to me to bother Him for advice about my daily life, but Franco explained to me that Guides desire to be consulted by us, as through us They can realize works of Light on the Earth. Yet, in order to do this, Guides want to be called. They cannot interfere with our karma, and for this reason, if we do not call Them They limit Themselves to protecting us when we are in danger and when karma itself does not demand getting to the bottom of that danger. If we call Them we have the possibility of turning karma into dharma, that is to redeem ourselves from a condition of painful repetition of karmic situations through the shift to a level where karmic laws no longer exist, as they are transformed by the spiritual Light.
From the astrological point of view this means that we have the possibility of transforming the difficult aspects of our birthchart: in order to allow this to occur, we need to experience each zodiacal sign, astrological house or planet in its high instead of in its low vibration. For example the planet Uranus in its low vibration means separations, sudden downfalls of situations, rebellion at any cost. In its high vibration it means constructive opening to new things, subtle energies, astrology, advanced technologies in respect to the environment, community spirit. If a person, who has in his birthchart difficult aspects of Uranus (for example, a square Venus-Uranus, which inclines to emotional separations), starts to experience Uranus in one, or better, more than one of its high vibrations, he will no longer run into painful emotional separations. It sounds like a miracle, and, as a matter of fact, miracles happen when we start to vibrate at a higher level; on the other hand, the planet has only one energy and it is up to us to decide at which level we want to experience that energy. It is exactly this change, from a thick and material vibration, in which all human sufferings occur, to a subtle and high vibration, where there are no pains, but harmony, peace and acceptance, that Guides help us to achieve. Without Them for human beings, who are deeply plunged in the physical and material world, it is often difficult to realize this change: usually when we manage to raise the level of our perceptions it is because of a terrible pain, like a serious illness or the loss of a beloved person. Guides teach us to realize the vibrational jump by following a path of joy, not of pain, but, certainly, They need our collaboration, our commitment and efforts in order to help us. It is not a path for lazy people, in fact, but for people of good will.
Finally, Guides don't really have the appearance They show to us. They are pure Light, and don't have human features. Yet They show Themselves to us as if They had human features, in order to be more understandable; on the other hand the energetic meaning of Their appearance is important : from the point of view of energy, in fact, it is different to have as a Guide a woman or a man, a warrior or a shaman, a priest or a peasant, an adult or a child. The energetic meaning of the Guide always has something to do with us, generally with our best part, or with the part we should develop to its full extent to be truly ourselves and to be happy: it is as if our Guide was our double of Light in the spiritual dimension or someone who, from that dimension, guides us in order to make us approach the Light as much as we can.

Name: Astrid Gude

Sun Sign: Taurus (5th House)
Moon Sign: Aries (4th House)
Ascendant: Sagittarius
Astroshamanic Trinity System: 2-1-9
Other relevant features in your astrological chart: Saturn conjunct MC

Location: Cluny Hill College, Forres, Morayshire, Scotland

Where are you originally from? I was born in the north of Germany.

Tell us about yourself and your interests.
I have always been closely related to the teacher archetype by family tradition and by personal inclination. Considering that my ascendant is in Sagittarius, this does not really come as a surprise, but that is something I discovered much later. Also aligned with the ascendant comes my passion for travelling. I have travelled extensively, in the past two decades aiming at going to environments that support and deepen my spiritual journey. The theme for this year was 'pilgrimage' (another Sagittarian feature) and I have been to Jerusalem and twice to Assisi. With a strong accumulation of planets in the fifth house I could be an artist, I was told. I am not, yet I have a very creative mind, feel very inspired and nourished by art and am quite passionate about facilitating creative processes. I have chosen to live in a spiritual community, wanting to get out of the comfortable, but very confining little box I had lived in before and become part of something larger that serves the planet. To balance this very people-intense life I spend a significant amount of time in nature and in silence.

How did you first connect with astroshamanic work?
My first connection with astroshamanic work occurred during a Trance Dance while doing a programme at the Findhorn Foundation in 2002. It was a powerful and deeply moving experience. I had worked a lot with trance states before and the spaces that opened up were familiar and excitingly new at the same time. There was complete freedom of expression and the evocative stimuli offered within this sacred space covered an enormous range and allowed to travel in any possible direction. I felt very alive and perceived a deep sense of connection and meaning. I had my first individual session with Franco shortly afterwards.

Why are you involved with astroshamanic work?
After the initial experienced described above it felt like the right thing to continue. I attended quite a few workshops and had a series of individual sessions. The researcher, the explorer in me was addressed. I was excited by the richness of my journeys and the map that was offered. I was looking for a context that allows me to go deeper, that involves the body - I had done years of formal sitting meditation practice - offers a creative approach, an individual journey within a shared cosmology. I was fascinated by the passion and the subtlety of the teaching, the beauty and sacredness of the void, the invisible realm.

What sort of things inspire you in astroshamanism?
What inspires me is the lack of dogmatism, the openness to all experiences and paths, also that the teachings are alive and constantly evolving. In my own practice this has allowed me to experience an ever deeper connection to the elements, the cycles and forces of the universe and has instilled an ongoing search for meaning and the wish to go more deeply into the mysteries. Astroshamanism offers powerful tools of transformation and healing on an individual and on a collective level. Over the years as an assistant in so many workshops I have witnessed how much healing of deep wounds occurs due to this work, what an explosion of creativity can occur and how much re-connection with Spirit.

How long have you been involved with astroshamanism and other forms of spiritual healing or energy work?
With energy work in some form or other for the past twenty years. I explored various spiritual paths and trained in humanistic and transpersonal psychotherapy. I became involved with astroshamanism in the summer of 2002, was a co-founder of the Findhorn core-group and a member for some years.

What types of astroshamanic activities, training and work do you take part in?
I have taken part in all types of astroshamanic workshops as a participant and have been an assistant in probably a dozen of them. I also attended various advanced retreats and gatherings, four of them in Italy.
I completed the two years' operative training in 2006 and am currently involved in workshop co-focalisation at the Findhorn Foundation.

What are your favourite astroshamanic practices and experiences?
There are quite a few. Among my favourites are Trance Dances and the Ritual of the Sacred Cone.
I also practice journeying and work with the Sacred Circle.

Why are they your favourites?
Having quite a strong mental disposition, I find it very beneficial for me to work with movement and sound. Both help me to open me up into fields beyond the mind. Trance Dance is for me the path of bliss and passion, a gateway to the archetypal and mystical realm. I love ritual since it sets a familiar frame, creates a safe, holding space that then enables and invites all levels of experience. I also love the synergetic effect of shamanic work within groups that allows the individual to go further, tap into and become part of a higher vibrational field. The exploration of the different worlds through journeying and the work with the Sacred Circle deepen my understanding of the shamanic cosmology and provide points of reference within this complex territory.

What is your current intent?
To explore more deeply my role and function on this plane, to be of service to others and the planet and to penetrate more deeply into the mysteries of life and death. To increase my capacity to love unconditionally.

Do you offer any astroshamanic or other healing services, sessions or events? If yes, what are they?
I assist in astroshamanic workshops, support them logistically and hold sessions within these workshops. I have recently offered an astroshamanic group session on the autumn equinox in a different working context. I have been an assistant in Trance Dances for many years. I write workshop reports and have contributed to PAN in various ways.

What advice would you give anyone who was thinking of training or going deeper with astroshamanic work?
Practice your journeying skills, receive your guidance and inspiration from there. And: to quote Don Juan: check whether for you this appears as a path with heart.

Anything else you'd like to say to the group:
Let's connect in our luminosity and walk in beauty on this plane. It is great to know that there are so many people who share this path and who bring in their gifts and their uniqueness.

Astroshamanic Healing Sessions –
How do they work and how to arrange them.
Sessions typically last 60 minutes and can be in-person or distant (over the phone or Skype). Distance sessions involve a preliminary telephone consultation, followed by a healing practice and a successive consultation aimed at examining what emerged during the practice. Each session is geared according to the issue and intent of the client. The aim is to focus on prominent issues, both from an ordinary and multidimensional perspective, releasing grievances, while uncovering authentic talents and finding empowering guidance. If the client finds it helpful, it is also possible to have additional sessions, or start a specific training programme. Fees for a distant session (60 minutes) are Euro 60 (£ 40). If you wish to arrange a distance session, please contact Franco to make an appointment at info@astroshamanism.org

Temperance - Sagittarius: An Astroshamanic Voyage into the Tarot by Franco Santoro

Please be aware that the articles in this series are merely an introductory overview on the topic. More plausible implications of the astroshamanic voyage through the Tarot are provided with individual experiential sessions or specific training.

Sagittarius is traditionally associated with Temperance, which is the thirteenth Major Arcana in most tarot decks. In the Rider Waite Tarot this trump depicts a winged angel standing with one foot on land and the other in water, while pouring a liquid from one cup to another. The two cups are not in a parallel position, and their easy flow, which defies the ordinary law of gravity, is the result of the angel’s gentle focus attention. The cup held in the left hand pours water into the cup of the right hand, shifting the traditional roles of polarity, with the right hand here becoming receptive and feminine, and the left taking on the active and male role.
Temperance operates as a bridge between opposite polarities by enhancing mobility and the capacity to alternate their sphere of influence, whereby nothing remains stuck and the web of life keeps flowing. Sagittarius is a mutable sign, and every mutable sign is preceded by a fixed sign, which in this case is Scorpio. Fixed signs exalt the nature of one specific side, which they lead to its climax, allowing it to be firm and permanent. This is the apex of the stage of identification, which is then followed by the phase of connection of that identified part with other parts that also need to be identified, in the process of retrieval. Being on a healing path implies setting an intent and giving it concrete and fixed form, and then surrender it to the web of life, connecting that form to other forms until the integrity of the circle is fully re-awakened.
Temperance represents the fusion, integration and mixture of dissimilar elements aimed at achieving a harmonious balance and synergy. This principle is represented by the rainbow, associated with the Sagittarian archer, consisting of seven colours representing the visible planets of the solar system. In Hindu myths the rainbow, is the bow of Indra, the god of thunder, lightning and storms (associated with Jupiter, ruler of Sagittarius), while in Greek mythology it is the path created by the goddess Iris, who is the angel depicted in the card, in order to connect Heaven and Earth. Iris, similarly to Mercury, is the messenger of the Olympian gods and also carries a caduceus. She travels to the underworld to fill her golden cup with water from the river Styx, with which she puts to sleep those who perjure themselves.
Although the shining sun and the radiance of the angel provide abundant luminosity, Temperance is definitely a card of the underworld and, given its association with Sagittarius’ last stage of autumn, represents indeed the climax of darkness. This is also represented by the lilies in the background, which are flowers traditionally related with Hades and death, and yet also emblems of virtue, fertility and the primary symbol of forgiveness in A Course in Miracles: “Yet will one lily of forgiveness change the darkness into light; the altar to illusions to the shrine of Life Itself. And peace will be restored forever to the holy minds which God created as His Son, His dwelling place, His joy, His love, completely His, completely one with Him”. (ACIM, W-12.5)
Temperance is one of the cardinal virtues enumerated by classical Greek philosophers and the Christian tradition, together with prudence, justice and fortitude. The Greek term for “temperance” is sophrosune, which means moderation, self-control, soundness of mind, and the harmonious balance of the soul. As Jack Crabtree, interpreting Plato’s definition of sophrosune, puts it in “The Miracle of Sophrosine”, it is “the virtue of enlightened self-acceptance, a self acceptance based on an accurate understanding of who one really is, a self-acceptance which results in a humble and settled contentment with and pursuit of one’s destined role in human existence.” This was regarded as the most important of all human virtues, the model for the maximum expression of life, encompassing a fulfilment both in the inner and outer world. Applying this virtue of moderation often entails being able to stand in the midst of extreme opposites, which also implies, according to circumstances, learning when to move more towards one than the other. The reference to moderation was also found in the inscription of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, where the widely renowned maxim “Know Thyself” was preceded by the less known dictum “Nothing Too Much”, i.e. “Nothing Too Much and Know Thyself”, which placed the art of moderation as a priority in order to know oneself. For a video on the mystery of the missing virtue of sophrosune click here.
In A Gnostic Book of Saints, the companion book to his Tarot of the Saints, Robert M.Place associates Temperance with St. Benedict of Norcia, the founder of Western Christian monastic communities, who “unlike many of the martyrs and ascetics of the early Church, set an example of harmony and moderation. He was a master of the art of living, who, like Buddha, saw that extreme asceticism was yet another trap of the ego.”
The seeker who has travelled many times through the sacred circle, deeply exploring all aspects of life represented by the zodiac signs, and learning their lessons, besides becoming a master in moderation, acquires the capacity to combine the different features of life in a synthesis rather as separate compartments. This involves being experientially aware of the simultaneous dynamics of the Sun and the Moon, so that, for example, during the dark late autumn cycle, when the Sun is in Sagittarius, he can also encompass the bright summer cycle and all the other seasons as the Moon transits them all in its lunation. Typical signs of lack of temperance are the incapacity to integrate business with private life, serious things with laughter, love with sexual attraction, friendship with money matters, etc. This results in experiencing life as a series of disconnecting roles, devoid of any association, and shifting periodically, without any possibility of assimilation.
Temperance involves the integration of all elements in life, which may also imply making specific choices or following a given direction, yet while still holding the connection with all the others. It is an exemplification of the Middle Way, the Buddhist Noble Eightfold Path, “the way that leads to the extinction of suffering, namely: right understanding, right thought, right speech, right bodily action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration" (Samyutta Nikáya. LVI, 11).
In divination Temperance may indicate an invitation to operate with integrity and maturity in dealing with a certain matter, which may at times also involve doing nothing. “The intemperate person always needs to be doing something, but very often a situation requires a person to simply wait. The card will sometimes appear as an antidote to cards of recklessness and hysteria.” Hence in a reading Temperance can simply tell you to take it easy, be patient and not carry things too far. Another indication from this trump is to expand your perception and open yourself more regarding the implications of any matter relevant to you. It may also suggest the need of letting go and applying true forgiveness in a situation where action is primarily motivated by fear, competition and subtle resentment.
Hence when Temperance emerges in one’s life, this is an invitation to pause and be available to delve into the profound aspects of our nature, challenging the assumptions of our ordinary identity, and of all we take for granted in our perception of others and the world. Temperance calls for a perspective that allows all aspects of life to be acknowledged and honoured, bringing benefits to both apparent polar opposites and reconciling them in a meaningful and profound way.

The World Drum Project

On the 2nd year anniversary of The World Drum Project, The World Drum arrived in Scotland for the first time. It was sent to the Community Foudation for Planetary Healing in Edinburgh, where on Saturday 25 October 2009, Claudia Goncalves with more than 30 people held a ceremony at the beach in Portobello. This occurred in the evening after the first day of Franco’s workshop on The Way of the West.
The World Drum Project started on 21 October 2006 in Oslo (Norway) with an initiation ceremony in front of the Norwegian Parliament, as an initiative aimed at peace and healing of Mother Earth. The World Drum was activated on that occasion and since then it has travelled all over the world. The drum carries a feather of an eagle, a little purse of leather filled with power objects and a silver medallion made as a wolf’s paw in the back.
The thought behind the project is that the participant brings attention to the critical situation for Mother Earth. The organisers of each drumming event try to reach the press, hand out flyers, have the ceremony in public places.

The Voice of Jupiter

Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius. Click here for a fascinating recording of Jupiter sounds (electromagnetic "voices") by NASA-Voyager. The complex interactions of charged electromagnetic particles from the solar wind , planetary magnetosphere etc. create vibration "soundscapes". It sounds very interesting, even scary. Jupiter is mostly composed of hydrogen and helium. The entire planet is made of gas, with no solid surface under the atmosphere. The pressures and temperatures deep in Jupiter are so high that gases form a gradual transition into liquids which are gradually compressed into a metallic "plasma" in which the molecules have been stripped of their outer electrons. The winds of Jupiter are a thousand metres per second relative to the rotating interior. Jupiter's magnetic field is four thousand times stronger than Earth's, and is tipped by 11° degrees of axis spin. This causes the magnetic field to wobble, which has a profound effect on trapped electronically charged particles. This plasma of charged particles is accelerated beyond the magnetosphere of Jupiter to speeds of tens of thousands of kilometres per second. It is these magnetic particle vibrations which generate some of the sound you hear on this recording. Visit http://www.inner-net.com/bmr/bmrpg2aa.html for more sounds of planets.
