What is Astroshamanism?

The Sun moves through the gateway of Aries, and Spring is at last emerging! Its glorious spirit roams and roars like the legendary sabre-toothed tiger, the embodiment of the warrior paving its fiery way through the ocean of awareness.

This tiger was a very fierce predator that lived long time past when the earth was stuck in the Ice Age. It became extinct around 11000 years ago. All that is left of its organic form can now be seen only in the showcases of natural history museums. And yet from an energetic perspective it would be more correct to say that we, as human beings, are the ones who are energetically extinct, mummified in the showcases of a separate configuration, while the sabre-toothed tiger is indeed roving free, gliding from reality to reality.

This tiger, as it is described by Carlos Castaneda, breathes with its whole body and perceives with its entire being. It exemplifies the passion of the warrior; it is aware that each moment could be its last, and yet it never gives up its purpose, holding the courage, competence and grace to pursue its unbending intent.

As the beginning of spring and the entrance of the Sun into Aries fires up a new cycle of the year, this can be a crucial time for claiming a pure and unadulterated sense of clarity, bravely engaging with the authentic Intent that keeps roaring in the very core of our being.

For the valiant seeker on the path this Intent has nothing to do with struggling to achieve objectives and desires in the physical reality, as we humanly perceive it. Goals, purposes, manifestation, or self-assertion, as they apply in everyday life, are merely pale shadows of the Intent. This does not abide in our conditioned awareness of the world and is entirely unrelated to our identification with the body, as we see it. The Intent is a pure energy wave flowing through the empty spaces left vacant by our ordinary sensory perception. It is far beyond the world we purport to know, existing in an unseen realm, which is completely alien to our cognition, and yet paradoxically it is the matrix that produces every aspect of our life.

The unveiling of this Intent requires an enormous investment of energy, an unattainable task as long as we keep using energy to sustain our conditioned perception of reality. When all our energy goes into supporting our separate identity, and its sense of self-importance, there is no space for anything else.

Self-importance was regarded by Don Juan Matus as the supreme enemy of the shaman and the nemesis of mankind. This is evident in the unceasing concern for the way we present ourselves to the world, the focus on being liked by people, the desire to be acknowledged, which also compels us to invest massive energy in the acknowledgement of others, so that they can then acknowledge us.

Don Juan argued that if we were capable of letting go of some of that preoccupation with self-acknowledgment, "two extraordinary things would happen to us. One, we would free our energy from trying to maintain the illusory idea of our grandeur; and, two, we would provide ourselves with enough energy to enter into the second attention to catch a glimpse of the actual grandeur of the universe." (Carlos Castaneda, The Art of Dreaming, p.37).

This grandeur of the universe becomes available when we tap into our core Intent, aligning with a field of energy we all have in the matrix of our being. This force can be identified by many names: Intent, Higher Self, God, Core Multidimensional Identity, or whatever term you feel happy about. Yet here this term has nothing to do with the torpid manner in which our separate reality interprets God and the like. It describes a vibrant, living and most liberating force, entirely unrelated to the mummified deities of consensus worship. Developing awareness of this force as the primary energy in the universe is the only chance for any true human evolution

A flaming blessing on your Spring!

Upcoming Astroshamanic Events & News

Cluny Garden et alia…

I am now in the midst of the workshop Being with the Spirit of Cluny Garden, which will culminate with the Spring Equinox on 20 March 2009. All the weeks involving Cluny Garden are filled with deep and bona fide mystery, and although I can provide a lot of words and images to describe what happens, these are just metaphors aimed at vaguely denoting what can only be grasped through a direct experience. The Astroshamanic Grid (click here for further information) and mapping of the territory of Cluny Hill College is a major feature of these workshops, together with the obvious and dominant participation of the vegetal, mineral and animal kingdom, which is here given primary attention. You are likely to find a full report on this event in the next PAN, yet for ongoing information regarding this week and Cluny Garden in general you can click here.

After the week at Cluny Garden, followed by a full day and night spent in a small and remote island here in Northern Scotland (with no internet connection), I travel to Italy to hold two seminars: in Jesi on Sacred Circle Fire Management from 28 to 29 March 2009, and in Rome on Multidimensional Communication from 4 to 5 April 2009.

The next one-week workshop at the Findhorn Foundation will be Flowering of Life – A Spring Retreat, which I hold with Sverre from 11 to 17 April 2009. This is most recommended if you wish to revive your spirit, mind and body bio-batteries in Cluny Garden at the climax of the Holy Week. We will alternate periods of silence and dialogue, stillness and movement, deepening the understanding of our connection with the divine, and how to best support it in our daily lives.

If you are drawn by astroshamanic soul retrieval, recapitulation and healing, there are some relevant upcoming events in May and June this year:

In the first place, I highlight Restoring the Fragmented Heart: The Way of Sacred Relationships, from 3 to 9 May 2009. This is a workshop that explores relationships from a multidimensional and holistic perspective with the aim of healing significant connections with others and transforming them in empowering links. We will track and release blocks to our capacity to love, identifying the underlying issues that hamper relationships, promoting healing, fulfilment and blessings. The aim is to support and implement righteous close relationships aligned with our authentic soul purpose. The workshop is designed for all types of relationships, encompassing couples in intimate or platonic connections, singles whishing to be in a relationship or happy to be singles, partnerships in work or service, rapports with friends and relatives.

Then on the Summer Solstice there is the traditional The Original Quest: An Astroshamanic Journey into Space and Time, now in its 9th edition at Findhorn, from 20 to 27 June 2009, with Sverre and myself. This is a very classic workshop devoted to the multidimensional exploration of the physical space and to the art of astroshamanic recapitulation and time-travel. It features prominently the astroshamanic grid at Cluny Hill College and involves a lot of practices in the sacred environment of Cluny Garden,

I wish to mention here also the Astroshamanic International Summer Retreat in Assisi, from 3 to 7 July 2009. This is our annual astroshamanic network gathering, which this year will focus on sacred circle management and astroshamanic group dynamics. Please book at your earliest convenience if you wish to take part.

More details about the above and other workshops in the calendar below.

Healing Sounds from the Findhorn Sacred Cone Circle

Astroshamanic Basic Ritual CD

Astroshamanic Basic Ritual is the first CD of a brand new series titled Healing Sounds from the Findhorn Sacred Cone Circle. This series employs sound as a bona fide holistic medicine aimed at breaking the limited parameters of our separated perception and navigating in the unknown with unbending healing intent.

The ambitious proposition of Healing Sounds from the Findhorn Sacred Cone Circle is to fully encompass the key principles of the Findhorn Foundation, as a mystery school, and its astroshamanic emanation, the Sacred Cone Circle, through the creation of a complete sound healing project. Being in, and acting from, a space of deep inner listening and connection with the web of life, co-creation with the intelligence of nature and service to the planet constitute the primary reference of this series of CDs, together with the intention to move beyond the limits of conditioned behavioural patterns and pragmatically investigate the hidden mysteries of our existence.

As part of this project we intend to cover the entire spectrum of our interaction with nature, both inner and outer, as it is represented by the astroshamanic cosmology of the sacred circle and the traditional esoteric configuration of the elements and zodiac templates. The first CD of this series is titled Astroshamanic Basic Ritual and is associated with the centre or core matrix of the sacred circle. Further CDs will be devoted to each of the four elements (Fire, Earth, Water, Air) and to other features of the sacred circle.

All CDs in this series are specifically produced for shamanic healing and energy work, as described in Franco Santoro's astroshamanic literature. The sounds support deep relaxation and access to expanded states of consciousness, encouraging the vitalisation and harmonisation of the subtle energy centres of the body and environment. This process aims to stimulate the release of grievances, toxins and blocked patterns, paving the way for deep transformational processes.

.These CDs can also be used to support a wider range of healing practices, according to one's guidance or spiritual path and tradition. These include: shamanic journeying and trance dance, bodywork and massage, astroshamanic touch, active and still meditations, healing rituals and prayer.

The basis for the structure of these CDs is taken from the classic astroshamanic ceremony of the Basic Ritual of the Sacred Cone. The first CD of the series, Astroshamanic Basic Ritual, is meant to exemplify the core essence of this ceremony, and represents a vital starting point before moving on to more specialised work, and also a regular return point.

Astroshamanic Basic Ritual includes three tracks, one for each stage of the Ritual, and corresponding to three traditional shamanic realms (Higher, Lower and Middle World) and astrological references (Sun, Moon and Ascendant), as they are reflected in all aspects of life, including our physical and energy body, where they relate to the head, abdomen and heart. The practice of the ritual also involves connecting, physically or through meditation, with three of the 12 sectors, or zodiac signs, of the astroshamanic circle.

The first stage focuses on the Intention and aims to acknowledge our current goals in life, while also opening up to our true soul's purpose and the multidimensional intention, which is the highest purpose that lies beyond our ordinary awareness of who we are. This stage also involves calling your spirit guide or ally, and setting up the foundations through which you can experience their unconditional presence, love and power. The sound is extremely empowering, aimed at enhancing focus, clarity and unbending intention.

The second stage is the phase of Release, when energies within and around us, which we may at times experience as grievances and blocks, are drawn and recycled into compost aimed at reinforcing our Intention, and the connection with our spirit guide or deities. Luminously mixed and articulated, the sound reaches deep within the body, encouraging profound transformational processes.

The third stage involves Healing and aims to integrate the previous stages into one harmonious whole, establishing a much deeper relationship with your spirit guide or ally. This is the stage of entrance into the mystery and total surrender to your guidance and profound inner knowing. The sound is here designed to vibrate in alignment with the human heart, restoring harmony and supporting a spontaneous inner silence.

Astroshamanic Basic Ritual is the first production of Franco Santoro & Max Mattoni (see short article below), a duo created almost two years ago. The CD will be released on the Spring Equinox, on 21 March 2009. The next CD will be devoted to the element of Fire and Spring, with first recordings starting with the forthcoming New Moon in Aries. Further CDs will be dedicated to the element of Earth, Water and Air.

The CD "Astroshamanic Basic Ritual" is available at £ 15.95, or Euro 17.95, and can be ordered at info@astroshamanism.org

Working on a Dream by Massimiliano Mattoni

My name is Massimiliano Mattoni, provisionally Max, born on 21st March 1967, with a Fire Binary of 1.5.9 - Ascendant in Sagittarius, Sun in Aries (conjunct Saturn), and Moon in Leo.

When I was a child I was impressed by looking at my uncle playing a wonderful Fender red guitar during a public holiday; I was 5 or 6 years old more or less. It was love at first sight, or dejà vu… who knows.

Anyway, he taught me the first musical steps and from then I started to study classical guitar with teachers in a musical school. Being very curios and dispersive at the same time (because of my abundant fire), I have been studying many different musical styles till I felt the necessity to manifest my insights and compose my own pieces.

In the last years, following a path of inner search, I have explored a large variety of sounds for energy work and meditation. This has allowed me to acquire a deeper understanding of the healing dynamics of sound, providing great benefits on the creative level. Also, as a result, I have noticed how changes can be immediate when our intent is aligned to our function. Among the tools that allowed me to speed up the process of manifestation there is surely the Basic Ritual of the Sacred Cone.

In June 2007 I took part in a seminar with Franco at Corvaro (Abruzzo,Italy) and during the ritual I focused on the manifestation of three intentions… As a matter of fact, Franco's recommendation was to focus only on one intention, but as it often happens to me, I end up exaggerating a bit.

So it was in that particular event that I asked for the following:

1) manifesting a CD with my old band

2) a "solo" CD, and

3) collaborating with my dear Franco for a musical work together (yet Franco was not aware of this, or was it?)

Of these three intentions, the first one, dissolved together with the band, yet it paved the way for my solo project, the second intentions, and my record, is actually in phase of realization. The third intention, the collaboration with Franco, started after a while, and is giving me big satisfactions and emotions.

In fact, after a while following my first seminar, we decided to connect and explore if we could blend our intentions and skills to realize a musical project aimed at providing a soundtrack for the Basic Ritual of the Sacred Cone. I accepted immediately, happy and scared at the same time. Working on this CD with Franco, has allowed me to loose very hard knots within myself, such as the difficulty of "manifesting" – the result of anxiety of judgment – that so often had affected my professional results in the past. Here I thank Franco for his capacity to drive the creative process straight to the final result in a very clear and precious way.

Keeping the "connection" with him for a long time has supported my capacity of finding my own way and understanding that every dream can be realized. And moreover I have understood that the Ritual of the Sacred Cone really works! And how it works!

Max.

The Right Side of the Brain

by Franco Santoro

Totem Spirits, or astroshamanic templates (see previous article in PAN 89) are the basic archetypes in astroshamanic cosmology. They correspond astrologically to planets or constellations, and in mythology to the gods or heroes of all cultures. To the first inhabitants on Earth, they appeared in their purest form. With the reinforcement of the process of separation, the basic templates assumed polluted and complex patterns that then multiplied abundantly in countless subsidiary types.

In ancient times templates and their related deities were the result of a totally different perception of reality, very distant from our current cultural and spiritual views. They did not possess anthropomorphic features and they did not have any sex gender or ordinary physical form. They directly and overtly communicated through the human mind. Their natural dwelling place resided beyond our limited third-dimensional perception, in those spaces that we now perceive as empty. Then the awareness of such spaces gradually eclipsed and the current human configuration began to take shape and definitely prevail over our multidimensional nature.

Certain cultures managed to preserve some traces of multidimensional awareness and their relationship with the original templates. These relationships were based on direct communication and devoid of any reference to external authorities or forms. Then all this was lost and the human mind was definitely confined to a fragmented linear and subjective consciousness, losing its capacity to think analogically and to identify with the whole.

Each template is associated with a zodiac sign, and each sign is associated with different parts of the human body, covering the body from head (Aries) to feet (Pisces). Since Aries is the first sign of the zodiac it rules the head and the brain in general. In the current human configuration it is associated with the "I am" factor, which on the one hand operates as the keeper of unity, while on the other, as it applies to our ordinary reality, holds the perception of our separated identity, the fragmented self.

Academic studies have shown that people in archaic civilisations did not have a subjective consciousness or any awareness of a separated identity. Neurologist Julian Jaynes in The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind, claims that humans were directly connected to auditory and visual messages emanating from higher authorities acknowledged as gods. They did not have a private mind identified with an ego I and operated as the active force of gods, with whom they were at one. This mentality, which Jaynes defines as the bicameral mind, was based on two sides: executive (god) and follower (human), or right and left brain. In this context the corpus callosum, which is the bridge between the two brain's hemispheres, was the means that allowed the gods, abiding in one hemisphere, to give their orders to the other hemisphere.

The popular concept of right and left brain developed from the research of Nobel Prize, Roger W Sperry. He discovered that the human brain employs two radically different ways of thinking. One is visual and elaborates information in intuitive, simultaneous or here-and-now ways, considering first the whole and then the details (right brain). The other is verbal and handles information in analytical, rational and linear ways, acknowledging first the fragments and then putting them together into the whole (left brain).

The two sides of the brain are very different. A typical experiment here involves using a divider that allows participants to see two objects, for example, a cup with the right eye and a lemon with the left eye. When asked what they see, they will say they see a cup, and nothing else, since most people process both language and information from the right eye with their left brain. Yet, when they write down what they see, with their left hand, they'll write "a lemon," because both the left hand and eye are controlled by the right brain.

Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor had a relevant experience in this respect. One day, a blood vessel in her brain exploded and she witnessed her brain functions shutting down one by one: motion, speech, memory, self-awareness… She underwent major brain surgery to remove a large haemorrhage which placed pressure on her left hemisphere. For the past ten years, Dr. Taylor has been successfully rebuilding her brain and the functions of her right hemisphere have exceptionally blossomed. She is now a very popular speaker and relates her most striking story on left and right brain in an amazing video (in which she also exhibits a real human brain) you can see at:

http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http://uk.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DUyyjU8fzEYU

Most people have a distinct preference of one brain hemisphere over the other. Left-brain oriented folks are focused on logical thinking, language, analysis and ordinary awareness, while right-brained people are more into feelings, creativity, art, aesthetics and non-ordinary awareness. If you wish to check which side of your brain is dominant, there is a simple test you can find at: http://www.web-us.com/brain/braindominance.htm

The Language of Laughter

by Dave Mountjoy

Before reading this article, I invite you to click here, here and here.

"Laughter is the very essence of religion. Seriousness is never religious, cannot be religious. Seriousness is of the ego, part of the very disease. Laughter is egolessness. The whole play of existence is so beautiful that laughter can be the only response to it. Only laughter can be the real prayer, gratitude." Osho, A Sudden Clash of Thunder, Chapter 2.

Laughter. Hee hee hee. Ha ha ha. Cry with it, die with it. Split your sides. Laugh your socks off. Laugh your head off. Laugh as if your life depends on it. Lose your breath. Collapse, convulse and shake. Dribble and descend into bliss. Forget everything else. Become the laughter.

Recent experiences have led me to become fascinated with the nature of laughter, the language it speaks and the opportunities for healing and transformation it provides. In the midst of complete, utter and total abandonment to laughter, nothing exists but the laughter itself. When the fountain of ecstasy and bliss shoots forth its liquid jets of mirth and merriment, the laugher becomes nothing but the laugh. It is the same as the peak experience of trance dance, when the dancer is danced by the dance. There is no room for 'I' or 'me', for 'he' or 'she' nor 'him' nor 'her'. All is brought into the totality of the present. I consider such total laughter to be a sexual experience, in that for a few moments, it brings all to an orgasmic and ecstatic climax, emptying the mind [an ejaculation of sorts] of its seemingly endless chatter and allowing an intoxicating whiff of a most infectious and beautiful fragrance. For me, this is the perfume of life, the lifeblood and twinkle-eyed essence.

The most potent form of laughter appears to occur during moments of direct and clear connection with the multidimensional matrix. In a recent workshop dedicated to the outrageous presence of Carnival, I quite simply disappeared into the sound of the gong I was playing during the final stage of the Basic Ritual of the Sacred Cone. Nothing existed but wave upon wave of acoustic harmonious bliss. I moved to complete the practice by sharing what I had experienced, through eye contact, with a partner. The moment we connected I descended into the depths of uncontrollable mirth. And down is the correct description, spiralling ever deeper, sliding a polished pathway, helter skelter. All I discovered, as I fell, were ever more boundless reserves of hilarity and glee. As I returned to awareness of my immediate surroundings, I gladly observed that my partner appeared to have descended the same shuddering staircase. The waves of laughter ebbed and flowed and I noticed that other pairs in the room were also beginning to tremor with their own inner earthquakes of joy. For a few brief moments, the whole room was shaken by the sound of uncontrolled giggling.

Most crucially, it was in the total silence that followed the laughter that I understood its presence to act strategically as a gateway, a gap and a hole to the whole. In this silent gap, which can only emerge once the laughter has exhausted itself and snuffed out its own flame, the purpose, but not necessarily the meaning of the hilarity is revealed. For the laughter itself is but a vehicle, glorious as it may be, bringing the passenger home.

Through complete participation and union of all bodies in the activity of laughter, the possibility exists of entry to the most genuine realms of luminous and ecstatic brilliance. A purification and cleansing occurs as every cell, atom and molecule, who in agreement form the community of the body, are energetically zapped with a surge of inner electricity. In this sense, laughter, quite literally, can light up your life.

Findhorn Foundation Training in Astroshamanism 2009

(Report by Astrid Gude)

The two-weeks Findhorn Foundation Training in Astroshamanism, comprising the core teachings of Astroshamanism: A Journey into the Inner Universe in week one and Astroshamanism: The Voyage through the Zodiac in the second week, was held in Cluny Hill College within the Findhorn Foundation in February/March and experienced its seventh edition this year.

Ten participants attended both weeks, which allowed a continuing deepening during the course, and together with Elaine Silverfire and me, we were able to fill the twelve positions that open up when working with the sacred circle.

The itinerary is well marked for this journey. The structure is laid out by the seven planets that were known in the past which are honoured throughout the week - the Sun on Sunday, the Moon on Monday, Mars on Tuesday, Mercury on Wednesday, Jupiter on Thursday, Venus on Friday and Saturn on Saturday. The voyage that unfolds is different each time, depending on what emerges when the individual intents and themes that participants bring meet the collective realm and start to interact with the planetary forces, very much facilitated by Franco's capacity to respond to whatever arises in the moment. The Pisces New Moon fell into this time as well as the end of the carnival season, which was celebrated in the "controlled madness" of a public Trance Dance that took place in Cluny Ballroom on Shrove Tuesday.

The central tool in this training was not so much the shamanic journey but the work with the sacred circle, taking the natal astrological chart as a point of departure, as a map of the ego-identity which offers gateways into the multi-dimensional self. The aim of the first week was mainly an exploration of these forces whereas the focus of the second week was to bring them into dialogue.

Sunday serves mostly the elaboration of the Intent, Monday, the day of the lunar realm, the exploration of what is hidden and of past memories. On Tuesday Mars connects us with sheer energy. Wednesday is often devoted to the mental realm, communication and understanding. On Thursday Jupiter provides the energy of expansion. Friday is the day of the divine feminine, harmony and relationships. And on Saturday Saturn confronts us with blocks and limitations.

Some special features were two outings that allowed taking the work deeper by inviting the outer environment to respond. We saw the ocean, the ancient cliffs and caves at Primrose Bay and the huge trees and the wild water of the Findhorn River. On two occasions the territory of Cluny Garden allowed further exploration within group projects, one held by Elaine and Sverre in the Pisces sector of the garden.

On the second Sunday during a morning session we celebrated the Ritual of the Sacred Cone in the Sanctuary of Cluny Hill College. In the afternoon we worked with the scales of the Sun, another astroshamanic tool that leads from a zero stage gradually into higher vibrations of a specific planetary energy, using astroshamanic chants to raise the energy in stages. In the evening there was a Sun Circle, again aiming at energizing and then sharing the Intent, making it public.

Throughout the second week, after having isolated the energy of the planets and given them free expression, we started to invite them to listen to each other, working more and more with the circle on the floor and with our natal charts. There was an opportunity for participants to enter the inner circle and explore personal issues, facilitated by Franco, who brought in the planetary forces as supportive, blocking or balancing energies, depending on their respective role and their aspects in the chart. We did astrodrama, where other group members went into the energy of a specific planet to make the dynamics visible, a bit like a "cosmic family constellation" (my own words).

This workshop is definitely the best foundation for people who want to learn about astroshamanism both from the astrological as well as the shamanic side. It was very dense with information, especially for astrological newcomers, yet the experiential approach and the constant interweaving of the individual and the collective allowed the information to be grounded in each participant, invited the opening of ever new layers of experience, the awareness of of different levels of reality - and provided a lot of tools to take home.

Name: Anna Maria Caricari

Shamanic Name: Luna

Sun Sign: Pisces, 3rd house

Moon Sign: Libra, 10th house

Ascendant: Sagittarius

Astroshamanic Trinity System: 12.7.9

Other relevant features in your astrological chart: Moon conjunct Neptune and MC

Location: Rome, Italy.

Where are you originally from? I was born in Siderno, a seaside resort in the South of Italy, and I have always had a strong connection with the sea.

Tell us about yourself and your interests. From my sun sign probably comes my dreaming nature, not much inclined to practical aspects of life. I'm fascinated by everything new and lying outside of everyday life and routine. I like travelling and learning about cultures and traditions different from mine, especially places connected with mythical or apparently lost civilizations. I'm currently attracted by journeys that I feel aligned with my spiritual path, and which through an outer search may help me to penetrate the deepness of the inner mystery. Over the last few years I have been to Scotland where I visited the Findhorn Foundation, then to Sardinia on an initiatory journey through a megalithic shamanic path, and last year I walked the Road to Santiago.

I have always been intrigued by the mystery of life and death, and the possibility of getting in touch with parallel worlds. My interest in non conventional themes has grown me away from the Catholicism, the religion of my childhood, because they weren't able to give me complete answers to my questions. Nevertheless I haven't rejected my idea of the Divine, looking in different directions for what mostly resonate with my intent.

I love nature, where I take refuge as soon as I can. I love sunsets, rainbows, fairies, roots, darkness, silence, challenges, and the encounter with the Unseen, and I'm very grateful for all this.

How did you first connect with astroshamanic work? In 2005, with my meditation group at that time, we used to celebrate the Full Moon meditations with a drumming CD by Franco. I didn't know Franco yet, but when I heard that he was coming to Rome to hold a workshop, I felt I couldn't absolutely miss it.

Why are you involved with astroshamanic work? Essentially because it gives me the full freedom to experience and decide for myself, to honor my own pace and find out my personal ways of expression and connection with the Divine, providing at the same time all the support I need.

It offers me several effective tools of healing and transformation and allows me to find out, through my direct experience, what mostly resonate with my authentic aspirations.

What things do inspire you in astroshamanism? The willingness to honor and integrate every path and aspect of life and the absolute lack of judgment. This allowed me to accept things I had rejected in the past and retrieve fragmented parts of my soul, acknowledge myself in the outer world and approach in this way a wider vision of the reality.

With this awareness I can more easily operate the transposition from my limited personal plane to a collective level, breaking the chain of the victim and paving the way for the release of any kind of grievances.

In my perception astroshamanic work generates an ongoing healing web operating not only within the group but spreading everywhere.

How long have you been involved with astroshamanism and other forms of spiritual healing or energy work? I first got in touch consciously with healing energy in 2004, through reiki. Straight afterwards I discovered the magic of crystals and the interaction of their subtle vibrations with people and environment. I have taken part in courses of biodynamic astrology, psycoshamanism and yoga. I have been practicing Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Kung for three years.

I've been involving in astroshamanism for more than three years, and this is for me a continuous exciting discovery of new opportunities of healing.

What types of astroshamanic activities, training and work do you take part in? I'm currently involved with the Intermediary First Level of the Operative Training and I'm taking part in the second year of Astroshamanic Practitioner Training (APT) and in the one-year course of the Sacred Circle Management in Jesi.

In 2008 I participated in the one-year course of Astroshamanic Touch and the Assisi Gathering. I had previously attended several other courses, workshops and retreats.

What are your favorite astroshamanic practices and experiences? I have had meaningful experiences with astroshamanic touch, also with distant practices.

I find very inspiring the Basic Ritual of the Sacred Cone, and I'm enthusiastic about the energy work with the circle, that I have just begun experiencing and appreciating during the last workshop in Jesi.

I like dancing, working in the nature, and practices of connection with the Vertical Axis and the Stellar Firmament.

Why are they your favorites? The touch is my passion because allows me to transcend the limits of the matter and to work with the multidimensional body.

The Basic Ritual creates a very powerful sacred space which involves the whole group and where the space-time boundaries vanish and everything may happen.

With energy work in the circle planetary forces become really present and alive and I can perceive them through my emotions and even in my body.

I like movement and I feel nourished through the connection with the Realms of the Nature and with Higher Worlds and the Stars.

What is your current intent? To enhance the connection with my multidimensional nature and the Whole. To offer the healing tools acquired through astroshamanic work in order to serve people and environment.

Do you offer any astroshamanic or other healing services, sessions or events? If yes, what are they? I have been regularly contributing to astroshamanism for more than three years by translating PAN in Italian, an experience that I have begun by chance and a bit for fun, then turned into a real spiritual practice for me, making me very rich and providing different tools that have helped me to better understand and deepen astroshamanic work.

I'm planning, in alignment with my intent, to offer individual sessions, also at a distance, and create the conditions in order to introduce then other kinds of energetic work and rituals.

The Tower (Mars): An Astroshamanic Voyage into the Tarot

Please be aware that the articles in this series are merely an introductory overview on the topic. More plausible implications of the astroshamanic voyage through the Tarot are provided with individual experiential sessions or specific training. For a complete list of Astrology and Tarot correspondences according to the model used in these articles please see: http://www.astrologyweekly.com/astrology-articles/astrology-tarot.php

The previous article on the trump of the Moon concluded the exploration of the association of zodiac signs with the Major Arcana. We continue now the voyage through the Tarot with the trumps associated with the astrological planets. There are 22 Major Arcana, as there are ten astrological planets and 12 zodiac signs. Mars, the ruler of Aries and Scorpio, is associated with the Tower, the 16th trump of the Major Arcana, immediately following the Devil. In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, the card depicts a tower hit by a flash of lightning, which causes the crown at the top to fall and the building to catch fire. Two figures also fall from the top of the tower.

From a biblical perspective this card evokes the story of the Tower of Babel, when God confounds the languages of mankind because he is disturbed that they want to build a tower aimed at reaching the stars, and also the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. As a result, depending on the understanding of these most crucial episodes the Tower takes radically different meanings. On the one hand the Tower depicts human pride and vanity, the act of rebellion against God, the ego conception of life and the materialistic perception of the universe. On the other hand it identifies a subtler scenario, featuring the human attempt to step out of a separated reality by re-building the axis of the world that connects heaven and earth, and the reaction of an abusive god. The following story found in Genesis 11:1-9 discloses both meanings, as well as a third element, which in the end is the true and unmentionable mystery teaching of the Tower.

"And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children built. And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do; and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth."

Traditionally this card, along to the Devil and Death, is not particularly welcome in readings. It gives an immediate sense of falling apart, shocking developments and sudden failures. In this respect the Tower portrays the crumbling of deceptive attachments and the abrupt, often traumatic, unveiling of what is beyond such illusions. Here the Tower represents the ego and its identification with our human arbitrary configuration right at the moment when all falls apart. The destruction may result in actual and acute outer misfortunes: your partner leaves; your business crashes; your best friends turn against you, something you treasure is destroyed, etc. Or perhaps there is only little happening outside and yet this triggers a tremendous devastation at an inner level. The Tower can confront us with a climax of demolition, in which disasters appear to come as an ongoing procession. Everything was "fine" before and then suddenly a dramatic course of events takes over. And yet all this "fineness" was merely a layer of lies we were telling ourselves or others were telling us, a way of neglecting or denying what was happening, which when the Tower strikes blows up in our face.

Yet, what truly suffers with the Tower are peripheral parts of our being, illusory shells, whose destruction, however painful, creates space for a deeper essence to emerge and ideally expand. Hence, the blessings that this process generates are often acknowledged later in time, once the tempest is over. The Tower here also exemplifies the strenuous human investment of energy into maintaining self-importance, the obsessive focus upon the way we present our identity to the world. Stone by stone we construct our social image, embellishing it with places, things and people that fit with the idea we long to communicate to the world. Here the Tower represents our strife to stand within the human arbitrary configuration. Then something takes place that smashes our delusory world and the Tower falls to pieces, often revealing a most surprising scenario.

For many seekers on the path revelation comes as a shattering thunderbolt which devastates the hallucination of ordinary reality in a blink of an eye. The understanding suddenly reaches us and from that moment onwards life takes a radically different course. After many years of aspirations, wishes, delays, resistance and preparation, it finally happens! Everything occurs in that decisive instant, which we can either fully embrace or disregard and perhaps miss forever.
